LANDMARK PAINTING EXHIBITION TO OPEN IN NEWCASTLE CITY CENTRE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

X - Contemporary British Painting is a vibrant painting exhibition, the scale of which has not been staged

in the North East in decades.

Opening on May 20th at Newcastle Contemporary Art, X – Contemporary British Painting has been

curated by award-winning artist Narbi Price and brings together the work of over 80 artists, including

George Shaw, Andrew Grassie, HUSH, Biggs & Collings, alongside members of the Contemporary British

Painting organisation (CBP) and innovative emerging artists.

The exhibition explores the huge spectrum what painting can be, from photorealism through gestural

abstraction, tiny intimate studies to big bombastic works, paintings that come off the wall and paintings that

make you question what you’re looking at.

The exhibition marks the tenth anniversary of CBP and features all previous winners of the Contemporary

British Painting Prize. It also showcases prizewinners and nominees of the Turner Prize, the John Moores

Painting Prize, BEEP Painting Biennale, and Culture Awards Visual Artists of the Year.

Join us on the opening night on Saturday May 20th from 7pm, as part of The Late Shows to be the first to

view the work, accompanied by DJ sets by Opal Tapes founder Bishop and Maxïmo Park frontman Paul

Smith.

we founded The Contemporary British Painting Prize, an annual prize promoting the best of contemporary
